StridingPosted by Alun (cheshire, United Kingdom) on 23 November 2008 in Landscape & Rural. This was taken on striding edge on Helvellyn in the Lake District. Not much of a view, the cloud was right down, but that might have made the crossing of striding edge easyer

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandWow now that image brings back memories! My first time over Striding Edge I was 13 and thought I was never going to make it! Then the next year we went back to climb Helvellyn at night, meant to be a great sunrise...for 3 years there was low cloud so we gave up lol! 23 Nov 2008 5:49am @Linerberry: Wow, in the dark, thats scary. the day we did it there was a race going over, so there were loads of people, just after the plaque there is bad step, which is a bit of down climbing, goode fun, then theres the steep bit onto the top. love it, i must go back and do it on a clear day, maybe when my little lad is old enough. was a good game of rugby we had a half each, but you did more with yours, nice one MaryP from Aberdeenshire, United KingdomBeen there, done that, got the T shirt!! Ha!ha!. (Many years ago i might add.) Certainly is great fun. 23 Nov 2008 10:28am @MaryP: It is great fun, cheers Catalin from Bucharest, Romaniayes... it brings back memories... a place were I wanna be. i like your shot 23 Nov 2008 11:24am Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomThats a wicked climb, great in any weather, nice capture. 23 Nov 2008 11:27am @Richard_Irwin: your right, some time i love to get out in any weather Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaDaring and risky, wow loook at that fog, bravo for the photo! 23 Nov 2008 12:49pm grouser from Ludlow, United KingdomHad a similar experience on Tryfan climbing a gulley in snow, ice and freezing fog. The next time we went up it was clear and having seen where we had been we chose a different route. Fog does simplify everything. 23 Nov 2008 12:51pm @grouser: yes sometimes it's best not to see :)) i love Tryfan, we have done it three times by the north ridge and gone differant way every time Jeff from Pembroke Dock, United KingdomIf I let your Mother see this, you'll have another Brother...Good shot Al, 23 Nov 2008 1:08pm @Jeff: if you say nothing i will say nothing ;) Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesThose are some pretty jagged rocks and rough terrain. I look at the person in shorts and I think ouch! probably came away with a few scratches. Excellent composition. 23 Nov 2008 1:56pm @Laurie: this was one of the people who were in the race that day, cheers Les from Lincoln, United StatesLooks like a challenging climb! I like the atmosphere captured in this shot. Nicely done, Alun. 23 Nov 2008 2:16pm Cheryl from Texas, United Statesoh, I love the fog in this one. Give's one the idea the climb is in the heaven's! looks like one tough climb! 23 Nov 2008 2:49pm @Cheryl: a little hands on, and a head for hights is all thats needed. thank you Cheryl Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United StatesThough I think I would be a little scared climbing this part... scared I would fall.. 23 Nov 2008 6:14pm @Fliss: You would be fine jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandI agree with Fliss Wouldn't it be easier to climb flat hills LOL 23 Nov 2008 7:31pm @jamesy: Now were would be the fun in that :))) Ellie from United KingdomThis really does bring back memories, from far too long ago. It's a good atmospheric shot 23 Nov 2008 8:41pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomThere will be a few scrapes and cuts after that ridge..... good shot with the mist up there. 23 Nov 2008 11:21pm Anthony Lambert from Bielefeld, GermanyStuff that for a game of soldiers,my climbing about on rocks days ended as I was still in uniform.Up in the Allgäu in the Alps climbing and Abseiling. 24 Nov 2008 7:45am @Anthony Lambert: Was that the famous time of the Elvis legs ? Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesThe clouds add to the perceived danger... Looks brutal. 24 Nov 2008 3:39pm Anthony Lambert from Bielefeld, GermanyThe Elvis legs was before a 50m Abseil from a bridge over a gorge.Freefall all the way.Abseiling down rock faces was no problem having something to put your feet on. 25 Nov 2008 6:55am @Anthony Lambert: You would have two chances to get me abseiling freefall and the one i would pick would be no chance. dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Stateswow -- that looks quite risky!! faaabulous photo mate -- just love all that mist! so intriguing!!! 27 Nov 2008 9:10am @dj.tigersprout: Thanks jaycee for all of your comments |
